This 13 days Mount Rwenzori & Wildlife safari is an outdoor safari that will see you through some of the amazing wildlife and scenery of Uganda. On this safari, you will get to enjoy the wildlife, chimpanzees and hike up Rwenzori Mountain.
13 days Mount Rwenzori & Wildlife safari Highlights
Day 1: ARRIVAL AND PICK UP FROM AIRPORT
A guide from Steadfast safaris will pick you up from the airport on arrival. After some refreshment, the guide will drive you to your hotel in Entebbe depending on the time of your flight. Dinner and overnight at Papyrus Guest House. Meals: bed & breakfast
Day 2: KAMPALA CITY TOUR
We will begin the second day of this 13 days Mount Rwenzori & Wildlife safari with a tour of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. On this tour, you will be able to witness the historical and cultural sites in Kampala. These include; The Kabaka’s palace, Namugongo Matyrs shrine, Bahai temple and many more. This will also give you time to rest up from your travel and adjust to the time. Dinner and overnight at Kampala Forest Cottages. Meals: Full board
Day 3: RHINO TREKKING AND MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
We will have an early start as we head towards Zziwa rhino sanctuary. This is home to Uganda’s rhinos. After a briefing from the guides, we will head out on foot to track the rhinos. We will get within 15 meters of the rhinos on foot. This is a very rewarding experience. After the rhino tracking, we will have lunch and proceed to Murchison falls national park. We will check into the lodge and relax for the evening. Dinner and overnight at Fort Murchison Lodge. Meals: Full board
Day 4: GAME DRIVE AND BOAT CRUISE
After a very early breakfast, we will venture out into the savanna plains in search of the wildlife. On this game drive, we hope to see amazing wildlife like; lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, hyenas, kobs, jacksons’ heertbeasts and so much more. This game drive will last up to 4 hours. After the game drive, we will have an early lunch and prepare for the afternoon boat cruise. This boat cruise is done on the Nile and goes right to the bottom of Murchiosn falls. On this cruise, we will be able to see crocodiles, hippos and plenty of bird species. This boat cruise will last up to 3 hours. We shall return to the lodge for the evening at Fort Murchison Lodge. Meals: Full board
Day 5: TRANSFER TO KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
On day 5 of this 13 day Rwenzori Wildlife safari, we will depart Murchison falls national park and head towards Kibale national park. This drive takes us through amazing scenery of the Albertine rift valley. On arrival in Kibale, we shall a relaxing afternoon as we enjoy the view of the crater lakes. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee Fores Lodge. Meals: Full board
Day 6: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING
After a hearty breakfast, we will be briefed at the park headquarters about chimpanzee trekking. What to do and what not to do during the trekking. We will head out into the forest where we will get on experience the chimps as they go about their daily lives. This is an amazing experience. Seeing these primates go about their day will leave you speechless.
After the trekking, we will check out of the lodge and head for Rwenzori national park. We will check into our lodge as we prepare for the hike up the mountain. Dinner and overnight at Equator Snow Hotel. Meals: Full board
Day 7: NYAKALENGIJA (1615m) – NYABITABA CAMP (2651m)
The Hike will start at Nyakalengija. Arrival is 8am. This will give you enough time to meet the porters and get the necessary gear headed for your hike. This trail will take you through thivk forest along the Mubuku River. A long steep climb will take you up o Nyabitaba hut where you will rest for the night. This part of the hike will take 6-7hours. You will be able to see white and black colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and some chimps.
Day 8: NYABITABA – JOHN MATTE CAMP (3505m)
After breakfast, we will depart Nyabitaba and hike down through the forest. We will come to the Kurt Shafer Bridge. This is where Mubuku and Bujuku rivers meet. We will continue through the bamboo forests, slippery moss covered rocks. We will be able to have sight of the Mount Stanley and Mount Speke from the Nyamuleju rock shelter. We will proceed and reach John Matte Hut where we will stop for the night. This section of the hike will take 7-8 hours
Day 9: JOHN MATTE – BUJUKU CAMP (3962m)
From John Matte Hut, we will decend and cross Bujuku river and enter Bigo bog, this is home to the giant Lobelias. We will transverse through the bog and end up at Bujuku Lake. This will gives amazing views of Mount Baker and Stanely. Our rest for the night will be the Bujuku hut. This camp is good for acclimatization for those who are summiting. This part of the hike takes 4-5 hours.
Day 10: BUJUKU – KITANDARA CAMP (4430m)
We will depart Bujukku hut and transverse more bog to the magical forest of Groundsel Gully. We will hike through Scott-Elliot pass, this offers a spectacular view of Bujuku Lake and Mount Speke. We will proceed through an alpine zone with sparse vegetation and boulders. We will rest at Kitandara hut. This hike will take 5-6 hours
Day 11: KITANDARA – GUY YEOMAN (3261m)

From Kitandara, we will continue our hike ascending steeply up the head-wall. This spreads out from the base of Mount Baker to Fresh field pass. You will be able to have a peak at Congo. We shall then descend through the rocky rails at Bujongolo and an overnight at Guy Yeoman camp. This part of the hike takes 6-7 hours
Day 12: GUY YEOMAN – NYABITABA – NYAKALENGIJA (1615m)
On the last day on the mountain, we will descend from Guy Yeoman. We will navigate our way through the cliffs of Kichuchu. We will encounter muddy paths to cross the Mubuku River, the bamboo forest before hiking downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit.
This descent will take 7-8 hours.
Day 13: DEPART FOR KAMPALA
On the last day of this 13 day Rwenzori Wildlife safari, we will rest up and have a late breakfast as we prepare to depart for Kampala. We will stop in Mbarara town for a lunch on our way. At the equator, we shall stop for some photos and the hemispheric experiments. We should reach Kampala by evening. The guide will drop you off at your hotel/airport.
